Time to change gears!

As of this Wednesday, fall descended upon Missoula in more ways than one. For the first time this year, that crisp chill that indicates summer is coming to a close made an appearance, and what better time for that to happen than the first of Missoula’s Wednesday night cyclocross series.

We couldn’t have asked for a better evening for the first of the series; the air hovered around 60 degrees, a lot of moisture in the ground from heavy rains the night before, and a little bit of wind to make those power sections just a little tougher (or easier, depending which direction you’re going). The course, laid out at the Missoula Equestrian Park by Alex and Pat (go MBW Racing!) was phenomenal. There were bumpy sections, smooth sections, a legit sand pit, and just enough sharp cornering to make handling a factor.

There was an excellent cheering squad, including Duncan’s home-made “rear triangle” cowbell. Loudest one I ever heard (and most fashionable!). There’s a great picture of Danny putting it to use in James Farrugia’s photo album.

To top it all off, I managed to pull through for my first top-5 finish at a Wednesday-nighter! Barely…but 5th is still top 5.

There are a couple of photo albums from the evening that are pretty darn good, one from James Farrugia and one from Tom Robertson. Check ’em out. Oh hey, and if you’re not already a cyclocrosser, you should come out next week! Like the Missoula Cyclocross Facebook page or check out this website for more information. Oh and if you don’t live in Missoula, umm, well, maybe you should reconsider your life choices. And find a ‘cross series in your own town. It’s super fun!
